Jewish Heritage in Spain and Portugal

Marvâo (W)

This tranquil, medieval mountaintop village, known as the “Eagle’s Nest”, has a fantastic 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside, andis one of Portugal's most spectacular fortified towns.  Completely surrounded by walls dating from the 13th to the 17th centuries, its steep and narrow lanes with immaculately whitewashed houses, lead to a magnificent 13th century castle rising from the rock.

Marvâo’s Municipal Museum includes archaeological findings from nearby Jewish sites.
