Jewish Heritage in Spain and Portugal

Granada (S, SP)

Alhambra“See Granada and then die”, the Arabs used to say.  The Alhambra, Moorish palace built in the 13th-14th Cent., was popularized by the stories of Washington Irving.  Along with the Generalife gardens and Albaicín (old Moorish neighborhood), it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The last Moorish kingdom to be conquered by the Catholic monarchs, it is here that they wrote the edict expelling the Jews from Spain in 1492.
