Sort (E)

SortThis charming town, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is a popular destination for skiers in the winter and rural tourism the rest of the year.  In Catalan, “sort” means “luck”, and in Spain this town is also known for the disproportionate number of times that the big Christmas lottery has been won here.  Less well-known is its history as a haven for refugees escaping from occupied France during World War II…In 2007 a museum was opened in the former prison where they were held on orders of Franco’s government.
